Careers in the Department of Anesthesiology
Practice alongside colleagues you can count on
The Department of Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Health is an academic department where collegiality matters as much as delivering safe, high-quality patient care. Patients are at the center of everything we do, and we have learned that the best way to care for them is to care for one another. Our faculty cover for each other, consult freely, and share the difficult cases, and the people beside you are the best part of the job. We are looking for physicians who embrace teamwork and value their colleagues.

Where we practice
Our faculty care for patients at Loma Linda University Medical Center, a Level I trauma center; Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, a Level IV NICU referral center; two surgical specialty hospitals within Loma Linda University Health; and a busy ambulatory surgery center. The case mix spans the full breadth of the specialty, from healthy outpatients to the most medically complex patients in the region.
How we practice
As an affiliate of Loma Linda University Health, our general anesthesiologists care for adult patients across every surgical specialty and at every site, including obstetric anesthesia. Their assignments are varied by design, and those who want to concentrate in an area of interest are supported. Our cardiac anesthesiologists support a full-service adult cardiac surgery program that includes heart transplantation, LVAD implantation, structural heart, and a busy electrophysiology and catheterization service, and they continue to practice general anesthesia alongside their cardiac work. Our pediatric anesthesiologists care exclusively for children at the children’s hospital. Faculty across the department supervise residents and CRNAs.
Teaching
Our residents are the reason many of us chose academic practice. The department sponsors an anesthesiology residency and fellowships in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine, liver transplant anesthesia, and critical care medicine. Faculty teach in the operating room, in didactics, and in simulation, and the strength of that training shows in our graduates, who are sought after by private practices and academic departments alike.
Advancement
Faculty advance along a defined academic track with support for promotion, and leadership roles are available in resident and fellowship education, quality and safety, perioperative medicine, section leadership, clinical research, and department administration.
Compensation and benefits
We offer a competitive academic salary with a comprehensive benefits package.
Mission
Loma Linda University Health is a Seventh-day Adventist academic health system, and its commitment to whole-person care and service shapes the department’s work. For more than a century, the institution has served the Inland Empire and communities around the world. Our anesthesiologists care for a diverse, often underserved patient population, and faculty interested in global health and community outreach will find support and colleagues who share that interest.
